Largemouth Bass

Fishing on Mary Lake:

Types of Fish:

Mary Lake contains a variety of species of fish including: Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Rock Bass, Northern Pike, Sunfish, and Perch.

You can get detailed information regarding seasons, license requirements, catch limits and consumption recommendations from the Ministry of Natural Resources website.

For Children:

The Clyffe House dock is a favourite hiding spot for smaller fish that are easy to catch; all you need is a fishing rod and some worms! Don't have a fishing rod? Just ask and we'd be happy to loan you one of ours. Children under the age of 18 years do not require a license to fish in Ontario.

For the Angler:

Mary Lake has fish for the more serious angler as well. In the spring, large Lake Trout rise to the surface to feed. In the summer, Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike are the most frequent catches. Clyffe House has two small fishing punts with electric motors that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at no additional charge. Please enquire for more details when making your reserveration.

Live Bait:

We find that minnows are the most effective fishing bait. Leeches, worms, and crayfish are also popular and work well. Here are some stores in the area that sell various types of bait. (Call to check their supply beforehand)
